Ability Resources

Ability Resources, based in Tulsa, Oklahoma offers a wide range of programs and services, including training and technical assistance on the Americans with Disabilities Act, issues in accessible transportation, and assistive technology. Through a new program conducted with Progress Independence in Norman, Ability Resources is also engaged in a strategic planning process involving the employment section of Oklahoma's Olmstead plan. Ability was awarded $116,009 under a WorkFORCE Coordinating Grants solicitation along with Progress Independence, the Oklahoma Department of Rehabilitation Services, and the University of Oklahoma's National Center on Disability Education and Training.

Ability Resources Assistive Technology Lending Library allows consumers to check out adaptive equipment such as wheelchairs, communication devices, portable ramps, low-vision aides, adaptive toys, and devices for deaf and hard of hearing individuals. They also assist individuals with disabilities in locating funding for new equipment and for equipment repair. Through "Access Transit," Ability Resources helps individuals with disabilities determine whether they are eligible for paratransit services.

Ability Resources also works with the Native American populations located in Oklahoma. Oklahoma is the home of numerous Native American tribes.
Ability Resources provides the following ADA services:

On-going, advanced level training on the Americans with Disabilities Act and other legislation related to disability issues,

Quarterly updates on the ADA covering litigation outcomes and cost effective modifications to its network.

ADA technical assistance via telephone and direct, networking opportunities for persons interested in disability issues.
