The following project activities on the Americans with Disabilities
Act and the nondiscrimination provisions of the Workforce
Investment Act are coordinated by Julie Ballinger of StarReach
Enterprises in New Mexico:
- Coordination of the DLRP
WIA E-Bulletin Series. Involves authoring and coordinating
other WIA experts to create e-mail bulletins on various topics
that addresses issues and provides technical assistance on how
to effectively serve and include people with disabilities in all
aspects of the WIA system, including One stop career centers,
and how to comply with the disability-related provisions of WIA
and the ADA.
- Coordinates and chairs the DLRP advisory committee composed
of Region VI state vocational rehabilitation agencies and various
Community Rehabilitation Programs. The task of the committee is
to educate, inform and advise the DLRP on the informational and
training needs of the vocational rehabilitation professional community
regarding the ADA and Section 188 nondiscriminatory regulation
regarding disability of WIA (with emphasis an accessible information
technology).
- Provide ADA and WIA training on behalf of the DLRP to various
Region VI (NM, TX, LA, OK, and AR) non-profits, businesses, and
state agencies upon request.
- Currently in the approval process with the NM Central WIA Board
to provide extensive technical assistance and training, on behalf
of the DLRP, to the Board and Central One-Stop Career Centers
on Section 188 of WIA, Section 504 of the Rehab. Act, and Title
II of the ADA.
