Welcome to the Southwest ADA Center technical assistance page.

What We Know

While the Southwest ADA Center can provide general information on a wide variety of topics, we specialize in two particular areas—the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Universally Accessible Information Technology to Schools. In these areas, we offer direct technical assistance that may include consultation, mentoring, problem solving and creative ideas.

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
The ADA is the nation's blueprint for including people with disabilities in all aspects of society-as consumers of goods and services, employees, and students. We provide direct technical assistance to individuals who are protected by the ADA, as well as businesses, government agencies and employers that must comply with the law.
Information Technology (IT) Assistance to Schools
Access to information technology is critical to the success of students with disabilities—both in school and in their lives beyond. Unfortunately, in too many educational settings, IT is inaccessible to students with disabilities. We offer technical assistance to schools and other educational entities as a way to promote the acquisition and use of accessible IT. Specifically, we offer assistance on meeting the requirements of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act and Section 255 of the Telecommunications Act. These laws complement the ADA by requiring removal of electronic barriers in education.

Who We Help

The Southwest ADA Center provides technical assistance to those with rights as well as those with responsibilities under the ADA and related laws. The Southwest ADA Center is not an enforcement agency and cannot provide legal representation. However, we can discuss options for enforcement and make referrals. All calls are confidential.
